The Cathcart Street Practice

8 Cathcart Street

Ayr
KA7 1BJ
Tel: 01292 264051

Seasonal flu vaccination appointments are available on Sat 12th and Sat 26th Oct.

Booking an Appointment - 264051 Option 2

Consultations are by appointment only and can be arranged at reception desk, by telephone or by Patient Access. Appointments are normally allocated at 10 minute intervals. If you feel you need more than 10 minutes with the GP or Nurse, please ask the receptionist/telephonist for a double appointment. This will help prevent surgeries running late.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO BE ON TIME FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT. IF YOU ARE LATE YOU MAY NOT BE SEEN.

Patients who wish to see a specific doctor will be accommodated wherever possible. However, patients should note that a request for an appointment with a specific doctor may incur a delay. If your doctor of first choice is not available you will be offered an appointment with another doctor.

On 26th May 2011 Ayrshire & Arran Health Board produced the document “Your Health: We’re in it together”, setting standards for accessing primary care services in Ayrshire and Arran. The standard set for the wait for a routine GP appointment was 2-4 weeks and we aim to offer a routine GP appointment in line with this standard.

 Urgent/Same Day Appointments

Be sure to inform the Receptionist straight away that an urgent/same day appointment is required. These are available each day for patients whose medical condition requires urgent treatment and who cannot reasonably wait for a routine appointment.

The Receptionist will ask you for brief details of your symptoms. You will then be put into the queue for a triage call with one of our nursing team. They will then call you on the provided number to assess your needs and decide the best course of action which may include:

  • Provision of information to allow Self Care
  • Referral to the Minor Ailments Service at a local pharmacy
  • Provision of a Prescription
  • Appointment with a nurse
  • Appointment with a GP

We cannot always offer an ideal time for everyone, but we strive to offer quick access to medical care in urgent cases. Please note that patients booked into emergency appointments may have to wait to be seen. We may send you a warning letter if you book then fail to attend an urgent appointment, without justification.

Urgent/same day appointments are not given for the sole purpose of issuing or renewing sick lines etc. If you require an appointment for this purpose, please book a routine appointment for the relevant date.

Minor Ailments/Eye and Dental Problems:

Most minor ailments can be dealt with by your pharmacist. If you have an eye problem, your first point of contact should be your optician, and for dental problems please contact your dentist.
