Our Clinics

We run many clinics for the management of chronic diseases and offer a wide variety of medical services.

Asthma & Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Nurse Gulland and Nurse MacIntosh provide clinics for our patients with a diagnosis of Asthma and/or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

Patients with respiratory problems should attend for an annual review of their medication and condition.  Additional appointments are available throughout the year for patients who are experiencing respiratory problems.

The Practice participates in a national programme to provide additional support to certain patients who have a diagnosis of COPD and/or who are receiving Long Term Oxygen Therapy. These patients are invited for special review with Dr Shearer.

Diabetes

Dr Farrell and Nurse MacIntosh provide support in the Surgery for our patients with a diagnosis of Diabetes. All patients with Diabetes should attend for review at least twice per year either at the Surgery or at the hospital Diabetic Clinic.

Diabetes is an important cause of preventable disability and illness and all patients are encouraged to attend for review when invited.

The community dietitian attends the surgery regularly to provide essential dietary advice and guidance.

Epilepsy

Dr Claire Oldfield and Nurse Tomkinson undertake monitoring of our patients who have been diagnosed with Epilepsy.

Patients receive an invitation to attend for annual review of medication and treatment at Dr Oldfield’s or Nurse Hunt’s clinic.

Hypertension

Nurse Richmond undertakes monitoring of patients who have been diagnosed with Hypertension (High Blood Pressure).

Patients who have a diagnosis of Hypertension should attend for a check-up yearly.

Patients are strongly encouraged to attend for these important review appointments.

Ischaemic Heart Disease

Nurse MacIntosh provides support for our patients who have a diagnosis of angina or who have had a heart attack.

Patients should attend Sister Lydon’s clinic yearly for a blood pressure and cholesterol check.

Cervical Cytology

All female patients aged between 20 and 60 should attend for a Cervical Smear test every three years.

The recall system is now managed at Ayrshire Central Hospital. When patients receive their recall letter they should make an appointment with any of the Practice Nurses for this simple test.

Phlebotomy

Mrs Kirsty Martin is our Healthcare Assistant. She has clinics in the Surgery on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays to take blood samples (mornings and early afternoon appointments) and a range of other services. Early appointments in the clinic are made available to patients who require a Fasting Blood test.

Ayrshire Community Blood Service

The community blood service is where patients going to hospital for an appointment or being discharged from hospital and who need a blood test will be able to go to a centre convenient to them and have their blood test done by a community phlebotomist, so no need to visit a GP.

Warts and Verrucae

Warts and verrucas can be treated in the Surgery by cryosurgery (freezing with liquid nitrogen).

Appointments are available on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays only.

Please ask the telephonist/receptionist for an appointment with one of our GPs.
